Laini Taylor’s young adult fantasy novel, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, was published in 2011. It earned a loyal and passionate fan base. As the first installment in a planned trilogy it was a strong and promising start. In fact, it made such an impact that Universal Pictures snapped up the film rights. Never mind Katniss, there may be a new leading lady on the scene…
Never ones to miss an opportunity, Taylor’s savvy publicity team decided to involve her fans in the book’s promotion. Readers were encouraged to submit their photographs, videos and ‘fan art’ for inclusion in a series trailer to be shared online. In return they will be acknowledged in a special ‘thank you’ section of Taylor’s next book. You can view the video below. It was released to coincide with the publication of the second book in the series, Days of Blood and Starlight, out August 2013.
Karou is an art student from Prague, she is an errand girl for Brimstone, a mythical-sounding creature with the head of ram and the body of a dragon. Yes really. You’re going to have to suspend reality if you want to get the most out of Taylor’s imaginative series. Just throw yourself into it. She has created a brilliant world of good battling evil and lobbed in a hunky love interest in the form of Akiva, a type of angel-being, to keep things interesting.
Interestingly all those featured in the trailer are women or girls, where are the men? Does Taylor have any male readers?
