It made me very, very happy to hear that Charlie Byrne’s has been voted the Irish Times Best Bookshop of the Year 2013. I had the pleasure of working for Charlie while I studied at NUI Galway. Working in the shop, I struck up some great friendships, as well as developed a healthy respect for the committed staff, and curious customers.
Knowing Charlie, I can imagine his discomfort at having to record this short clip. He is a modest and hardworking gentleman with an aversion to the spotlight!
Well done Charlie, Vinny, Carmel, and all the team! It is wonderful to see your hard work recognised.
