Yes! Go Square Peg, go!
A really lovely treat arrived recently, this chunky cardboard covered notebook from Random House division, Vintage Publishing. Black, White & Colour: A Creative Sketch and Doodle Book, is a simple concept, well-executed.
The rectangular pages feature pencil and ink drawings, prints, and semi-reconstructions of renowned artworks. It is the offspring of a design team headed up by Suzanne Dean, Creative Director at Random House, and the lady behind the jacket design of Julian Barnes’ 2011 Man Booker Prize-winning The Sense of an Ending.
Others onboard include James Jones, Kris Potter, Stephen Parker, and Matt Broughton. I’m open to correction but I think this may be the same Matt Broughton whose work on the Brothers Grimm here). Respectively they have worked on the covers for such best-sellers as Keith Richard’s bio, Life; Joseph Heller’s Catch 22; A.S. Byatt’s The Children’s Book; and Tom Wolfe’s Back to Blood. Also in the mix is Lily Richards, a picture researcher with a passion for photography and a background in art history.
I love it and have already been tearing pages out for ‘to-do’ lists posted all over my walls. Much better than a Post-it®!
